How to be a Social Media Boss – Getting Social with Just a Girl and her Blog

I am so excited to share with y’all a new series that I have started that I like to call…

How to be a Social Media Boss

First of all what is a Social Media Boss?

An online hustler who has an impressive social media presence and rocks their social media networks like a BOSS!

I will be interviewing amazing women entrepreneurs and asking them a few questions about their biz, their social media strategies, and thoughts on social media. I think this is a good way to not only raise awareness of the importance of a stellar social media presence but to build relationships with fellow bloggers + brands. I hope that you all enjoy this series because I am looking forward to seeing where this can go and meeting ladies that are rocking the social media scene!

Are y’all ready? Eeeeek!

Meet Abby from Just a Girl and her Blog! I have stalked Abby on social media for quite some time now and have fallen in love with her love for Jesus, heart-warming story,  organization, diy, and biz skills. Now, this lady is a serious Social Media BOSS for many reasons. One of those reasons is because she has over 50k social media followers.

Do I have your attention now?

Abby is a beast and she is sharing her social media thoughts with us today. Lucky us!

Here are the few questions that I sent her way and what she had to say…

Abby Lawson Headshot
1// What’s the 411 on you and your biz?

I’m Abby Lawson, and I started Just a Girl and Her Blog on a whim in January 2013 because I needed a creative outlet. I never thought anyone would read it and actually tried to keep it a secret at first! My husband Donnie joined me full time in January of 2015, so we’re coming up on a year in business together! We have two sons, Connor and Caleb, who are 6 & 4, so they keep us busy too. J I write about home decor, organization, and online business and truly love helping others create a beautiful, thriving home, life, and business for themselves. So far we’ve created four products to help fulfill this mission:

Building a Framework: The Ultimate Blogging Handbook

The Paperless Home: How to Use Evernote to Organize Your Life

The 2016 Intentional Life Planner

Simplify: 25+ Printables to Help You Organize Your Life
2// Why use social media? What’s your take-away from it?

Social media is a great place to connect with readers, other bloggers, and brands! I have met so many amazing people through blogging and have many times started those connections on social media. It is also fantastic for spreading your message and building your platform.

{Below is Abby’s 2016 Intentional Life Planner – A printable planner to help you get organized, stay focused, and accomplish your goals in 2016. Only $10 y’all – holla!}

3// Where is your social media home? (ie. your favorite social media network?)

Instagram is probably my favorite social media to browse and participate in because I love having a quick way to see everyone’s beautiful projects and interact with people. I do love Pinterest as a high traffic source for my blog, though!

4// How long did it take you to grow your social media following?

I don’t know that I will ever feel “done” growing it! I never had one huge influx of social media followers; they’ve just grown slow and steady over time, day by day for the last three years.

{Here is one of Abby’s eBooks: Building a Framework – 35 chapters of immediately actionable strategies and techniques to help you grow your following, work with brands, and make money from your blog.}

5// What overwhelms you the most with social media?

Keeping up with comments! I truly appreciate when people take the time to leave comments and send messages on social, but between all of the social media networks, email, and blog comments, it does become a bit overwhelming.

6// Which social media network gives you the biggest return? (most traffic to your blog?)

Pinterest for sure!

7// How much time per week do you spend in social media land?

I probably spend 45 minutes to an hour per day on social between scheduling posts and interacting with readers and other bloggers. I also have an assistant (my awesome sister!) who helps me with post scheduling. I post to Facebook around 5 times a day, twice on Instagram, 10-ish times on Twitter, and pin around 100 pins per day.

8// Do you ever think of unplugging from social media? If so, how would this affect your biz?

Not really. I see it as part of the job description for bloggers, so I don’t think I’ll ever give it up, but our team is always trying to find systems and tools to help us work smarter on social.

9// What makes your fabulous self follow another blogger or brand on social media?

Obviously high quality, valuable content is huge! Also if they consistently interact and leave thoughtful comments, I’m more likely to pop over to their feed, check out their stuff, and follow them.

10// If you could describe social media in one word – what would you choose? Social Media Boss in one word?

Social Media- crowded! There are tons of people out there trying to get their messages across, so you really have to find a way to stand out.

Social Media Boss- organized. I think having great systems in place is key for becoming a social media boss!

11// Where do you see social media going in the next 5 years? Will your biz change with the new trends?

I definitely see video becoming bigger and bigger, particularly live video with outlets like Periscope and Blab. I am a little sheepish in front of the camera, but one of my goals for 2016 is to suck it up and embrace video!

{You must read Abby’s story – from a hobby blog to a thriving business.}

12// What do you enjoy most by using social media?

I love meeting new people and being inspired by other bloggers’ work!

13// Spill it. Any tips on how to rock social media like a boss?

Schedulers are huge for me. Right now I use BoardBooster for Pinterest and Edgar for Twitter. We are working toward moving our Facebook posts to Edgar too. Schedulers help me be more organized, intentional, and consistent with the content I share, and I don’t have to be chained to my computer or phone all the time!

14// What’s next from Just a Girl and Her Blog?

We are looking forward to launching some new products in 2016 and, as I mentioned above, getting more into video platforms. Should be fun!
