Pinterest has recently rolled out Pinterest Story Pins! I know that learning a new update to any platform can be overwhelming, but this a fun update that can be a great addition to your Pinterest marketing strategies. Pinterest Story Pins are “similar” to Instagram Stories, but pinnable. Stick with me as I introduce you to story pins, show you how to create them, and how to leverage them to your advantage.
What are Pinterest Story Pins?
If you have a Pinterest business account, you can use Story Pins to record multiple videos, add images, lists and custom text in a single Pin. Like other Pins, Story Pins will stay on your boards once you’ve published them. Once you’ve published at least one Story Pin, the Pin will be displayed on your business profile at the top of your Created tab along with all of your Story Pins. Story Pins are a multi-page canvas to share your ideas. They last forever, and help you grow your audience.
You can use Story Pins to:
- Create a step-by-step guide, project or recipe
- Upload multiple short videos with additional descriptive text or text overlay
- Customize the colors and fonts in your Pin
- Improve your targeting with topic tagging
- Curate a collection of products
- Tell a story in a brand new way

Here is a quick example of the process of creating a Pinterest Story Pin:
Edit Story Pins
After you’ve published a Story Pin, you can edit the board you published it to, topic tags and details. You can also delete an existing page, add a new page, or reorder existing pages. You won’t be able to edit the content of an existing page. You can edit a Story Pin up to 2 weeks after publishing.
You can save 1 Story Pin on Android phones, store up to 3 GB of Story Pins in draft on iPhones and save unlimited drafts on desktop. You can come back later to your device to finish and publish it to a board. You cannot edit your draft across different devices.
You may notice on some published Story Pins that comments and photos are disabled by default. You can turn on or off the ability for people to comment and photos on a published Story Pin at any time.
Pinterest Story Pin Tips
THINK VIDEO
Video is great for telling a story and helps you connect with your audience. Start with a video on your first page to stand out in people’s feeds. Just make sure to add text overlay, since some people watch with sound off.
MAKE YOUR OWN CONTENT
Story Pins are for your original content—no need to add links or content from other sites. Plan your content like a real story, with a true beginning, middle and end. And make sure include everything people need to act on the idea.
SHOW YOUR PERSONALITY
Story Pins help people get to know the creator behind an idea. Don’t be afraid to narrate your Pin or show your face. It gets your audience excited to follow you, and keeps them coming back to engage.
SHARE THE RIGHT DETAILS
Fill out the detail page so people can make your idea happen. You can list ingredients, supplies, etc. Before publishing, make sure to tag relevant topics so your content reaches the right people.
CHECK OVER YOUR PIN STORY
Do a quick quality review before publishing. Always aim for crisp, clean and high-quality. Things to check:
-Are the screen edges covered? If not, pinch to resize.
-How’s the lighting? Natural light does wonders.
-Do the videos and images fit together? If not, try adding some filters.
