How to Spring Clean your Blog, Business, & Social Media

,

It is officially springtime in Georgia y’all. I always remember my daddy (he is a super clean freak) participating in the annual + dreaded SPRING CLEANING. He would always throw away a lot of “stuff” – organize everything – deep clean everything – and make sure that every room in the house was spotless. Needless to say that after his mission was accomplished the house looked amazing, smelled wonderful, and he felt like a new man with a new house!

We can do the same type of Spring Cleaning for our blogs, business, & social media networks. Are you ready to get rid of the clutter, get organized, and lead a more productive day? Keep reading ladies because I am going to show you How to Spring Clean your Blog, Business, & Social Media!

BLOG

Your Brand:

  • Dust off your Mission Statement; Remember your “why” and represent your brand with your mission statement.
  • Refresh your Colors; Could your blog color scheme use a facelift? (refer to my Branding Pinterest Board for inspiration)
  • Spend time looking at your site’s Imagery; Make sure that your site has a cohesive + clear first impression.
  • Go through each of your site’s pages and make lists of tweaks that can be made; correct them all.

Your Blog:

  • Update your About Page.
  • Go through your site and fix any broken links or images.
  • Check your Social Sharing tools and make sure that they link to your correct networks; be sure they are on every single page.
  • Clean off your blog’s sidebar; take off unrelevant ads; move relevant ads up!
  • Test all of your Subscription Buttons and make sure that they link correctly; are they easy to find?
  • Go through all of your comments and reply to every single one; this is SUPER IMPORTANT; engage with your readers.
  • Clean up your Plugins; if you have any unused plugins – delete them.
  • Add an ALT Text on all images; this is important for SEO.
  • Cross Link between posts for better internal linking; can you link to other posts within a post? If so, be sure to link to other blog posts.
  • Make sure all blog post images have a cohesive look.
  • Correct all SEO throughout your blog images.

BUSINESS

Your Email:

  • Go through your inbox and make sure that all emails are read + delegated. Once a task is completed, trash the email.
  • Make sure that blogs that you are a subscriber to are still relevant . If they aren’t, unsubscribe and stop those emails from coming in.
  • Consider creating a snazzy new email signature; please include your social media links.

Your Calendar:

Do you keep a business schedule? Lord help please tell me that you do! If so, do these thing to spring clean your calendar:

  • Keep your calendar up to date.
  • Fill in important deadlines, emails, reminders, blog post schedules, etc.
  • Stick to your calendar and make sure that every task gets completed.
  • Grab your Free Social Media Weekly Calendar here and start keeping track of your social media postings.

Your Office:

  • Get rid of stacks. File them, toss them, delegate them. It doesn’t matter what you do with paper stacks, but do something with them.
  • Clean our client files. If you have past files that are no longer relevant, toss them.
  • Get rid of clutter in your office; less is more. This can apply to decor in your office, too many things on your desk, etc.
  • Do some actual spring cleaning – scrub down your office space and get your office looking and smelling lovely.

SOCIAL MEDIA

  • Update your Social Media Passwords; it is smart to update your passwords periodically. I use Flexadex to keep up with my many passwords. (I totally got this shirt from my favorite boutique, Cents of Style, it reminds me to ALWAYS keep up with my passwords)

This is so great, Amy! I’m a BIG spring cleaner. I’ve got a week off from my day job from Monday and I’m planning on spending it spring cleaning my online life (and my bedroom too!) My biggest job is going back through all my old blog posts and reformatting them, and I also really want to make some progress with my freelance writing services too. This is a great post for anyone who’s looking to make some changes online but doesn’t know where to start!

      Hi Holly!

I am a BIG spring cleaner as well lady! I have been going through the house throwing stuff out and getting things ready to donate – and it feels SO good. Unfortunately, spring cleaning for your biz is just as time consuming as actual spring cleaning, but so worth it. Going through old posts and tweaking is a definite job – you will be so happy once you do though girl. Go for it!! Thanks for commenting and happy spring cleaning.

      xo,
      Amy
