1/ What’s the 411 on you and your biz?

Hello everyone! My name is Alexandra and I’m super excited to be here today! A little about me: I’m the blogger, small business owner, and heart behind the Heart Love Always blog. I’m a believer of dreams, faith, hope, love, and sparkly things!! I could live on Sephora, Kate Spade, J.Crew, Anthropologie, and Whole Foods. I’m a voracious reader, obsessive organizer, coffee mug collector, repeat movie watcher, todo list maker, Apple snob, and almost never on time.
A little about Heart Love Always: We were once Heart Love Weddings, a weddings-only blog with a focus on the love story of every bride and groom. Over the last 4.5 years, Heart Love Always has evolved from that weddings-only, love story blog to a wedding and lifestyle blog to what it is today…These days, I’m following my passion of helping creative women entrepreneurs (read: boss ladies) create a beautiful life, love, and business with a whole lot of heart!!

2/ Why use social media? What’s your take-away from it?
Social media is FUN! It can often be frivolous, a time-suck, and a distraction, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take it seriously from a business perspective. It’s a great way to connect + make friends with other like-minded individuals in your industry, find + create community, and helps you meet your ideal audience where they already hang out! Plus, it’s a gold mine for inspiration and encouragement if you let it!

3/ Where is your social media home?

That’s a toss-up! Instagram is definitely my favorite place to hang out, but I also love Facebook groups, Twitter chats, and I’ve been known to spend hours wandering aimlessly around Pinterest!

4/ How long did it take you to grow your social media following?
For about as long as I’ve had my blog! It definitely didn’t grow overnight! But I have seen more growth in the last 18 months than I did in the first 3 years.

5/ What overwhelms you the most with social media?

Scheduling social media is honestly one of my least favorite tasks as a blogger and online small business owner (even though I know it’s absolutely necessary to have a near constant presence there). One of my goals this year is to actually create a solid social media routine and strategy with as much automation as possible. My plan is to create a schedule and stick to it like glue! I also want to try batching most of the scheduling (using a social media scheduler) in one day and then only have to add in new things (like blog posts) as I publish them.

6/ Which social media network gives you the biggest return?
Definitely Pinterest! It’s my #3 traffic driver every day (after Google and direct)!! But I almost always see a spike in traffic after posting on Instagram with a link to my blog in my profile. I know there’s no super scientific way of tracking that, but if it happens consistently, it’s scientific enough for me!! hahaha

7/ How much time per week do you spend in social media land?

Too much! (I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad answer to this question! hahaha) The number of times I post differs from platform to platform. 2-4 times on Facebook, 10-12 times on Twitter, and 1-2 times on Instagram.

8/ Do you ever think of unplugging from social media?
I don’t know that I’ll ever completely unplug. Social media is fun and a necessary part of being a blogger and online small business owner. But if I need a break, I’ll take a break. I don’t like making a big announcement or big deal about it though.

9/ What makes your fabulous self follow another blogger or brand on social media?

Ooh! Good question! Usually if I stumble upon a blog, shop, or brand I love, I’ll follow them everywhere. Because I love being able to connect with and support them on all the different platforms! I also love visual and verbal inspiration (i.e. colors, quotes, makeup looks, outfits, blogging and biz tips, etc). Stunning Instagram feeds will get me every time, too!

10/ If you could describe social media in one word – what would you choose? Social Media Boss in one word?

Social Media is FUN.

Social Media Boss is CONSISTENT.

11/ Where do you see social media going in the next 5 years? Will your biz change with the new trends?

More visual and more video! Pinterest was just the beginning and I see the virtual inspiration board sticking around for a long, long time. I also see more and more people hopping on the video train (like those Tasty videos) and Periscope. I spent most of last year avoiding the heck out of Periscope (because another social media platform, really?) but I’ve recently become more and more curious about it. I’m planning to get on it this year!! My blog + biz will definitely embrace the trends (eventually). I like to make sure something is going to stick before I put a lot of time and effort into it. Mostly because staying on top of each social media network is a lot of work (never mind trying to coordinate 4 or more of them).

12/ What do you enjoy most by using social media?

I love that it can be a gold mine of opportunity, community, inspiration, and encouragement if you let it!! I’ve met some of my closest boss lady friends through social media and gotten a lot of great opportunities through it, too! Like the world is your oyster, social media is, too!

13/ Spill it. Any tips on how to rock social media like a boss?

Make every single post engagement-worthy or share-worthy! In other words, make sure it’s something that either inspires, educates, entertains, or enhances someone’s life. Use each platform a little differently! Don’t just post the same thing in every place! Change it up! Be consistent with your brand voice and image! Not only will this help you stand out, but people will start to recognize you and your work. And that’s exactly what you want!! Lastly, make sure you always include a call-to-action in your posts and your profile! I just learned about this and have been testing it out—it works!!

14/ What’s next from Heart Love Always?

LOTS! We’re getting ready to launch our newsletter for boss ladies at the end of the month! Hopping on Periscope soon! And we’re really excited about launching some webinars and e-courses for boss ladies later this year! (Hopefully as soon as the spring with our signature e-course coming late summer/early fall!!)
