Seriously, this girl is crazy smart, hella hilarious, and has a style that is infectious. I, along with thousands of others, enjoy reading her blog and her stories so much. She has been featured on many blogs, magazines, + more. Jenna LaFevor (she even has an awesome last name) is definitely a Social Media BOSS y’all and for many reasons…
Whatâs the 411 on you and your biz?
I am a blogger at Rain on a Tin Roof. I write about lots of home decorating, DIY projects, and random crazy adventures. I started blogging in January 2013 full-time. My blog had been in existence since the fall of 2011, but I never posted regularly nor took it seriously until 2013. Let me tell ya though â Iâm so glad I finally gave it my all.
Why use social media? Whatâs your take-away from it?
Why not use social media?! Social media has the potential to be a huge driving force of traffic to your blog. It is truly one powerful beast. Besides the traffic it can bring you, it can also allow you to connect with your readers on another level, creating more dedicated followers. That being said, email lists are still hugely important, but if you are trying to be successful at blogging and you arenât on social media, then youâd better get there soon.
Where is your social media home?
I like Pinterest because of all the social media outlets, it brings me the most traffic. However, Instagram and Facebook are two of my other favorites because I can connect with my readers there more.
How long did it take you to grow your social media following?
Iâm not done growing it. J Iâll never be done. Where itâs at now though â Iâve been doing that since January of 2013 when I committed myself to blogging. However, I will say that I usually tried to focus on growing one social media platform per year. In 2013, my social media outlets grew pretty slowly because I was still learning. I didnât necessarily work on one more than another then. In 2014 though, I focused on Facebook and a little on PInterest. In 2015, I worked hard on Pinterest. This year, Iâm going to work on Instagram.
What overwhelms you the most with social media?
There are four main social media outlets: Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter. In theory, you should be posting on those outlets multiple times a day. While some can be scheduled, all of them canât. Thatâs a whole lot of social media posts and pinning to do. Thatâs the one thing that overwhelms me the most â finding the time to post on social media while still completing and writing up projects for the blog.
Which social media network gives you the biggest return?
Hands down, Pinterest.
How much time per week do you spend in social media land?
If you include scheduling posts / pins, actually being on social media when it pertains to blogging, real-time posting on social media â at least five hours a week. I finally took the plunge last year and hired someone (Amy!) to manage my Facebook page and that took a huge load off me. If I didnât have her doing my Facebook page, then Iâm sure I would be working on just social media for a minimum of 10 hours a week.
Do you ever think of unplugging from social media?
Nope â while I have a really good loyal audience that comes straight to my blog and not from social media, if I were to stop using social media to promote my blog, my traffic would take a big cut.
What makes your fabulous self follow another blogger or brand on social media?
Usually if they have a similar style or frame of mind as me. Us freaks like to stick together.
If you could describe social media in one word â what would you choose? Social Media Boss in one word?
Social Media â HUSTLE
Social Media Boss – DOMINATE
Where do you see social media going in the next 5 years? Will your biz change with the new trends?
Oh man, I have no idea. Honestly, I never think about where social media might go because I donât have the time to think about that. I just do what I can do when it needs to be done. If you look at Facebook, we all know it used to be a top referrer to blogs, however that has changed drastically. Pinterest has started to turn toward this as well. I hope Pinterest doesnât become as bad as Facebook, but ya never know.
What do you enjoy most by using social media?
The more personal connection that I can create with my readers. This is especially true for Instagram. I post things on there that relate to my blog, but are often times more raw and unedited. Those kinds of things make connections and let people know weâre just well, regular people too.
Spill it. Any tips on how to rock social media like a boss?
Schedule as much as you can. Donât be afraid to hire someone to help you out. When I finally hired Amy, it took such a load off of me and really freed me up to work more on projects and post writing, which I desperately needed to do. Also, give yourself grace. Do the best that you can do everyday. If you donât get it all done, thatâs ok. Remember â Rome wasnât built in a day and neither is your empire.
Whatâs next from Rain on a Tin Roof?
Well, in the fall we bought the 70âs Landing Pad. Weâve been working on renovations and still have a lot to do, but that will be front and center in 2016. There may or may not also be a book in the works â maybe just maybe.
Since we are all about making Social Media a Party I asked Jenna…
Jenna’s answer?

Love this one!
Amy, thanks so much for interviewing me – it was so fun!!! I wouldn’t be half the social media boss I am without you!!
I’ve actually been scheduling my social media today. I think I’m at the stage where I’m ready to hire someone to help me out. It has become a bit stressful trying to stay active on social media while doing all of my other tasks too. Great interview!
