Tis time for our June Social Media BOSS Interview! I hope that you all are enjoying meeting new bloggers that are absolutely killing the social media scene as much as I am. Today, let’s get to know Alisha from LISH Creative and get her take on Social Media!
First of all, Alisha is such a vibrant soul. Creativity just pours out of this chic. I mean take a look at these photos that I snagged from her Instagram account – the account that has oh you know, over 22k followers. Yes y’all, she is a Social Media BOSS!
I discovered Alisha via the Savvy Business Owners Facebook group – you seriously need to join Heather’s group if you haven’t already. Some fantastic things are happening in there daily. Now, let’s get back to Alisha and take a look at this interview that she merrily completed:
What’s the 411 on you and your biz?
Hiya! I’m Alisha and I am the founder & content strategist behind LISH creative – a social media agency for fashion, lifestyle and hospitality brands. I am also known as a prop stylist, photographer and copywriter…it’s a small shop so I wear a lot of hats! I’ve done work for brands including Dunkin Donuts, Method Home, Zico Coconut Water & Google, and I have been featured by Mashable and The Huffington Post.
After graduating with a degree in marketing from Virginia Tech, I started my career in the advertising industry and that really gave me the nitty gritty community management and strategy experience that I needed. On nights & weekends, I pursued freelance writing and social media work and started focusing on my personal Instagram as a creative outlet. It was a way to prove to agency creative-types that I had the skills to be an agency creative director one day.
Focusing on Instagram totally paid off. Not only did I get two full time jobs thanks to it, but the imagery started catching the attention of brands, and I was able to secure more freelance styling and photography work. When the freelance work over took my agency job, I knew it was time to take the leap. I’ve been working for LISH creative full time since Jan of 2016.
Why use social media? What’s your take-away from it?
Social media can allow anyone or any business to make an impact. It completely breaks down barriers. It’s extraordinary. But like anything else, you get what you give and it takes an enormous amount of time and energy to make these platforms work for you.
Where is your social media home?
I really hit my stride with Instagram. I feel like I got in at a good time, and it suits me and my personality so well. I am very visual so it does a great job of showcasing my work.
How long did it take you to grow your social media following?
I started taking Instagram seriously in February of 2014. I grew from 200-2,000 followers in the first year. 2,000-11,000 in year two and have grown from 11k-22k so far in 2016.
What overwhelms you the most with social media?
I am so thankful for my vibrant community. My engagement rate is definitely something that sets me apart from others, but responding to every comment, every day is something that has started to become overwhelming. I never thought I would get to that point, but I try to be really genuine, to really develop relationships, and this becomes a lot more challenging with growth.
Which social media network gives you the biggest return?
Definitely Instagram – it’s 70% of the traffic to my website.
How much time per week do you spend in social media land?
I post once 6-8x per week on IG, but probably spend 2-3 hours per day engaging with my community. I spend 4-5 hours/week on Pinterest. 5-7 hours/week on Snapchat.
Do you ever think of unplugging from social media?
It’s not something that is a chore for me, I enjoy it! Which is a good thing because my clients rely on me to keep their channels afloat.
What makes your fabulous self follow another blogger or brand on social media?
It’s never about follower count or notoriety, it’s always about the quality of the content. Do I love the aesthetic? Is it inspiring? Is it a brand or biz that I would want to work with? Those are the main things that I think about.
If you could describe social media in one word – what would you choose?
Opportunity! There is so much room for self-expression and growth in your business.
Where do you see social media going in the next 5 years? Will your biz change with the new trends?
There’s definitely a shift back to live/uncurated moments & a huge movement in video. I am definitely adjusting by learning to create video content and have started using snapchat and periscope more!
What do you enjoy most by using social media?
I love using it as a live portfolio of my work and as an expression of my creativity.
Spill it. Any tips on how to rock social media like a boss?
If it is something that you care about for your biz, you have to put in the time! If you don’t have the time, hire someone who can help you leverage the opportunity – but always focus on content first.
What’s next from Lish Creative?
I am so excited to be working with a few new monthly retainer clients, and I am also working on a sponsored post for Furla – it’s the cutest bright pink handbag! In the next few months I will be continuing to grow my client base and my team, and will hopefully have some big news to share in the fall!
Since we are all about making Social Media a Party I asked Alisha…
Revel & Co – has the most beautiful printed party goods. I am in love with their tropical and abstract collections, especially, and all of their bright balloons! Oh and they’re also one of my amazing clients!
A BIG thank you to you Alisha for being such a rockstar! LISH Creative is an amazing biz and I look forward to witnessing you growing and achieving BIG things. I’m so glad that we have become friends, MUAH!
